Make writing to Santa a family ritual
- Pick a cozy evening in late November or early December. Cocoa and a Christmas playlist turn it into a tradition, not a chore.
- Start with thanks, then wishes. Asking “what are you proud of this year?” before the wish list makes for sweeter letters.
- Use the want, need, wear, read rule. The wish list template keeps lists short and gives you gift ideas beyond toys.
- Let them address the envelope. Decorating it is half the fun; our envelope decorating guide shows what still gets through the mail.
- Keep a copy. Snap a photo before you mail it. Year-by-year letters show how their handwriting and wishes grow.

Letter to Santa questions
What should a child write in a letter to Santa?
A simple order works: say hello and their age, share something they're proud of from this year, say thank you, list two or three wishes, and sign their name. The fill-in-the-blanks template walks younger kids through exactly that.
Which template should I pick for my child's age?
Pre-writers (about 3 to 5) do best with Draw your wish: they draw and tick boxes while a grown-up writes. Early writers (5 to 7) like Fill in the blanks. Confident writers (7 and up) usually want the Lined letter so they can say it their own way.
Where do I mail a letter to Santa in the US?
Address it to Santa Claus, 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888 with a First-Class stamp and your full return address. This is the official address for USPS Operation Santa. Some letters are adopted by volunteers, but a reply isn't guaranteed. For 2026, letters must be postmarked by December 5.
Can I mail a letter to Santa from Canada or the UK?
Canada Post accepts letters addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole, H0H 0H0, Canada, and Royal Mail accepts letters to Santa/Father Christmas, Santa's Grotto, Reindeerland XM4 5HQ. Both usually reply if you include a return address and mail before their early-December deadline. Check their websites for this year's date.
Does the template print on A4?
Yes. The templates are sized to fit both US Letter and A4. Choose “Actual size” or 100% in your print dialog.
